Float therapy places the body in a zero-gravity environment using warm water and 1k lbs. of pharmaceutical-grade Epsom salt. By removing external sensory input, the nervous system is given space to downshift, allowing muscles to relax, stress hormones to decrease, and mental clarity to improve. Float U Humboldt is home to the ONLY XL Float Suite in Humboldt County, offering the option to float solo or comfortably accommodate two people.

What to Expect
Each Float Therapy session is intentionally spaced to eliminate rushing and support true relaxation. You’ll have approximately 10 minutes to shower and prepare, a true 60-minute float, and 10 minutes afterward to rinse, hydrate, and re-orient at your own pace.
Your float room is private and customizable using Amazon Alexa, including ambient lighting and music through Amazon Music, or complete silence if preferred. A gentle in-room alarm signals the end of your float, and a spa attendant will walk you through everything at the start of your appointment so you feel comfortable and supported
The Science Snapshot
Float therapy works by significantly reducing external sensory input—light, sound, gravity, and temperature variation—allowing the brain and nervous system to shift out of a heightened stress response. The warm, magnesium-rich water supports muscle relaxation while buoyancy removes pressure from joints and connective tissue.
In this low-stimulation environment, the nervous system can transition from sympathetic (fight-or-flight) activity toward parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) regulation. Research has shown this shift may be associated with reduced cortisol levels, decreased muscle tension, improved circulation, and changes in brainwave activity linked to deep relaxation and recovery. While float therapy is not a medical treatment, it is widely used as a complementary practice to support stress management, physical recovery, and mental clarity. Float U’s approach centers on nervous-system regulation and intentional recovery, not sensory indulgence; creating space for real rest rather than distraction.
